Extending her reign as the loudest “Karen” in the Denver Metro Area, Regan Benson was in full “get off my lawn” mode Saturday night as she confronted a police officer over his decision to park his police branded golf cart on the grass in Denver’s Veteran’s park.
Benson added the park to her list of obsessions over the past year as she’s had several very public confrontations with the state police officers who are assigned to patrol the park over their treatment of the homeless population who frequent the park.
As with all things, Benson appears to have decided that she runs the park and that despite no official role in anything to do with the park, she has had filed multiple complaints about police parking in the grassy areas in order to help enforce her reign.
Saturday started with Benson approaching a state patrolman after he had an encounter with two apparently homeless people in the park.
Benson: And when did you guys start using this on the grass?
Trooper: I have no idea.
Benson: You don’t have any idea?
Trooper: I don’t, I’m sorry. It’s pretty typical that everyone uses their vehicles on the grass when they need to read with the individuals here in the park though, as far as I understand.
Benson: But they asked you the question. a little confused why you would need to drive this on the grass when you said they asked you the question. So you went and so you went and made contact with them.
Trooper: Yes, they asked me about the marijuana which is what you asked me. That’s me. Trooper: Gonzalez.
Benson: So why did you make contact with them?
Trooper: That’s not information that you need to know. Okay, it was a consensual contact. They were never detained. I just contacted them to make sure they were okay, all right?
Benson: So what do you mean that’s the information I need to know? You just gave it to me.
Trooper: Right, but it you You don’t need to know exactly why I contact them, I was just checking on them, okay.
Benson: Huh. So you kinda have like this eat shit attitude ’cause I’m asking you questions and you’re like trying to run away and stuff. So what’s the
Trooper: run away? I just know what you’re doing, okay? What am I doing? Getting a rise out Dude, only
Benson:you can make yourself get a rise. You get that, right?
Trooper: Do you have anything else I can do?
Benson: Yes, I do. And I’m not done talking. talking to you so I would appreciate it if you would quit talking over me and listen to me for just a well you fucking little prick.
After the insult by Benson, the Trooper drove away from her.
Benson followed the trooper over the building that houses the State Police where she would continue her verbal assault:
Benson: Good boy. How’s your being going? Well, it would have been going a little bit better had I been treated with courtesy and respect by my Colorado State Patrol. That’s how my day’s gone. Thanks for asking.
Trooper: I’m curious in what way do you have anything to do with courtesy so far?
Benson: You’re curious? Well here, let me let me put it in some language that you’re gonna understand, you little fucking punk. You’re a little bitch, and you can take that fucking hat and pull it right over your fucking chin and get the fuck out of my face.
Do you understand that language? Do you understand that language, bitch? Do you understand that language? Language bitch!
After a second trooper joined the conversation and both troopers left shortly before State Patrol Sgt. Josh Lewis arrived. Lewis inquired about the situation. Benson replied:
I’m not gonna be long This interaction that just took place with Gonzalez and whoever’s driving the maroon car problematic. So you got Gonzalez on this ATV Which I got some questions while you’re driving all over the lawn with them big ass tires on this grass. So I was exceptionally nice and professional And he decided, he decided that he didn’t need to be nice and professional either and got stupid and then came up here and wanted to tattle And I told them to call you and Mr. I can’t get out of my ATV because it’s raining And I’m cold as he was getting confrontational with me down there, decided it a good idea to get out of his ATV up here and try to get in my face.
You wanna talk about an exceptional level of escalation that just went down right here by the Colorado State Patrol? sir that that pretty much frosted the cake that that that pretty much frosted the cake and uh these two were sitting there also I’m sure you already know what’s going on.
When asked what he could do for Benson, she replied:
Yeah, you can fire their ass. You can send their asses home, tell them to clock the fuck out and go home. That’s what you can help me with right now If you want to file the complaint, if you want to file the complaint, you should do that too, because you know it’s being recorded and you can go back and watch it I’m gonna file that complaint.
Those fucking assholes should not be dealing with the public. And The reason I stopped was the contact being made down there on the bench. He fucking lied to me.
Tried to tell me these two young men sitting on the bench We ‘re asking him if they could smoke marijuana in the park as he had to drive his ATV across the park to go make contact with them. Don’t fucking lie to me. You could tell him that too.
You could tell him how he could have fucking avoided all of this. He’s a little fucking bitch, and the whole world is gonna know it I gotta go. See ya later.
Benson would later sum up her encounter in the park and with Sgt Lewis:
All right, well, I’m I’m gonna be off to the races now that um I had this interaction and I will give cr uh some credit to Sergeant Lewis. He came out Uh he didn’t run away from me.
Uh he didn’t get stupid. I think he figured out that um the way he used to um do some policing, even though he’s been around for a very long time. Um, it really wasn’t working with some of the public.
So I will applaud Sergeant Lewis for sh changing, for shifting his um approaches. That’s what we want. That’s how you rebuild that type of uh distress that was displayed And uh Sergeant Lewis has done a nice job, I guess, so far.
I’m a little miffed about uh the resource issue. Um But Sergeant Lewis has definitely taken a different approach. I will give him credit.
And he did ask me if he wanted, if, if I wanted him to continue to walk with me. And I said no, I’m good, because I was pissed. Just I I just the the the the amount of disdain for the people when they’re just trying to have a conversation with you.
Grow the fuck up, you little bit midget boy. Grow the fuck up And why is he even a cop? Did you see that guy?
I was taller than him. That ‘s why I said if I asked him if it was 5’3 and a half because I wanted him to say yes, because I would have made him taller than me What? And his ass is way wider than mine.
And I got a wide load. I want my public servants to be fit and in shape. And if you’re a fat ass, I’m gonna call you a fat ass because you’re a liability to the taxpayers.
I’m not! It’s a good thing I’m not out here tasked with trying to save lives and be tougher than a guy and blah blah blah. Because I’m not But that dude, I’m tougher than him.
