Youtuber Ironton Auditor appeared on the Welsh News Network YouTube broadcast on February 3, 2023.
Ironton Auditor (IA) was a army combat medic and served from 1991 until 2001, when he returned to his hometown of Ironton, Ohio. He had been sporadically following the first amendment (1A) auditing scene when a friend told him that Jose “Chille” DeCastro was in town last year to help YouTubers Jeebus Crisp with their struggles involving the Lawrence County police department.
IA explained that Ironton is a very small town but is the home both to its local Ironton police force and the Lawrence County police force. Both forces have separate courthouses but share the same jail, which Lawrence County runs. The Ironton police force operates within the city of Ironton, while the Lawrence County police force operates within the surrounding area. Most of the accusations of corruption have been made against the Lawrence County police force.
IA met DeCastro and formed a bond with him even though he disagreed with many of DeCastro’s point of view. DeCastro asked him to act as a security guard as he was concerned about threats that had been made against him. In this role, IA was armed and stood within 30 feet of DeCastro at most of his major events in Ironton, but out of earshot to hear the controversial views that DeCastro was saying at the time.
DeCastro presented a larger-than-life personality and was quick to win over many in the community with his promises to help them in their conflict with the police. IA began to question DeCastro’s operational style after DeCastro sent him to file a Federal lawsuit against the city of Ironton and Lawrence County in Cincinnati on three different days after his arrest for refusing to leave a city building after the building had closed. IA was only partially reimbursed for his expenses for each trip and noted that each trip was bungled by DeCastro’s disorganized management style.
IA described DeCastro asking someone for a space that held hundreds of people at the event that led to DeCastro’s arrest, when in reality, there were four people, including IA, besides DeCastro at the event. IA’s initial falling out with DeCastro came when IA refused to berate and negatively engage with police at DeCastro’s command, with DeCastro telling him it was his “job” to do so. IA informed DeCastro that he was volunteering his time for DeCastro and was not working for him, which led to the split.
Since splitting with DeCastro, IA’s turned his attention to his continued efforts to help the people of Ironton. While Ironton has been described by many as having a “massive” homeless problem, IA says that the problem was overblown and that he reached the majority of homeless within the city with donated goods from his campaign to help them.
