Jose “Chille” DeCastro used his Wednesday afternoon live stream to question new charges faced by Deobra Redden after attacking a Judge in Nevada last week during a sentencing hearing.
DeCastro objected to the idea that Redden was attempting to kill Judge Mary Kay Holthus when he dramatically dove over Holthus’ desk to attack her, only to be pulled off by a court clerk and security.
Redden was charged with a dozen new charges after the attack, including the attempted murder charges. DeCastro disputed those charges as well, explaining he felt that Judge Holthus, while injured, did not suffer significant enough injury to qualify for the new charges as she was back to work the next day.
DeCastro also objected to the fact that Redden was forced to wear a hospital mask during his court appearance and was surrounded by a large group of security personnel. Redden, having previously spat on Judge Holthus during his attack, was under increased scrutiny by security at his new arraignment.
In an ironic twist, DeCastro also called out the Judge hearing Redden’s new arraignment as that Judge does not allow live streaming in her courtroom. DeCastro claimed that the Judge was an opponent of transparency and should be forced to allow live streaming.
DeCastro, famously, filed a motion preventing the Our Nevada Judges press outlet from live streaming the hearings in his Las Vegas based criminal trial. DeCastro has yet to rescind his motion as his next hearing is scheduled for January 23, 2024.
