Everyone’s favorite YouTuber and activist for the homeless, Regan Benson, returned to livestreaming on Wednesday as she attempted to intervene in an attempt to confiscate a homeless woman’s RV in Denver’s District Three.
According to Benson, she was driving through the side streets of Denver on her way to Englewood when she came across a parked Denver metro police department vehicle near the camper and two police officers inside the vehicle.
When she questioned the officers, they indicated that the female owner of the vehicle had surrendered it to them and had declined an offer of homeless services by the officers before leaving the area.
The motorhome had several notices indicating that it was considered an abandoned vehicle and that it would be confiscated if not moved from the street within 72 hours.
Not trusting the officers, Benson called for help from another activist named Amy, who has been previously seen on Benson livestreams. On Amy’s way to the scene, she found a crying woman a few blocks away carrying a suitcase who turned out to be the owner of the vehicle.
Amy arrived at the scene with the woman and immediately parked her car in a manner where it would block any attempts to tow the camper. While Benson engaged the officers on the scene and tow truck operator with an extended burst of insults, degrading comments and criticism.
Benson urged both officers to leave the scene as there were more pressing things to do with their time. Their superior was called to the scene and Benson claimed that the officer, described as “Sergeant Riker” had threatened to arrest Amy if she did not move her vehicle.
When the Sergeant arrived, the woman explained that her motorhome was drivable and Amy told the Sergeant that she had secured the woman a hotel, provided through help from a local homeless organization, which would allow the woman to park her vehicle in their parking lot.
Despite Benson’s frequent intervention through screaming profanities at and criticism of those involved, leading to at least one warning by the sergeant to stop interfering in the situation, the parties were able to resolve the situation.
The officers assisted Amy and the woman in getting the motorhome jump started and the woman was able to leave the scene without further incident.
Benson remained at the scene, offering more profanities and criticism of the officers until those involved in the incident left the area. She was later met by a man she described as an attorney, who checked to see if she needed further help before she ended the livestream.
