Details remain sketchy as Aidan “Turtleboy” Kearney claimed to have planned a “quiet dinner” at CF McCarthy’s in Canton, Massachusetts, that turned into a police investigation involving members of the Albert and McCabe families.
CF McCarthy’s was across the street from D&E Pizza, owned by Christopher Albert. Collin Albert, the son of Chris Albert, and who Kearney has accused of murdering Boston police officer John O’Keefe, recognized Kearney and began screaming at him.
Members of the Albert and McCabe family were summoned, Turtleboy’s supporters were summoned, and at one point a woman named Jill Daniels, snatched a phone out of Kearney’s hand while screaming at him.
Kearney claims that his pick of CF McCarthy’s was just an innocent choice. That he and his girlfriend Meredith O’Neil were in Canton and hungry and picked a restaurant that was just coincidentally across the street from a pizza shop owned by witnesses in the case and witnesses in his own criminal witness intimidation case.
Police broke up the near riot at some point and Kearney over dramatically reacted to the “mob” coming for him on his Turtleboy Live broadcast.
Kearney has at various times in the course of the last two years, reportedly been a member of Karen Read’s defense team. He has demonstrated he can produce documents that even the courts don’t have as he has allegedly received them directly from Reed’s defense team.
Despite the falling out between Kearney and Karen Read’s team once Kearney was charged with witness intimidation, strong ties remain between Kearney and the Karen Read camp. His girlfriend, Meredith O’Neil, was reportedly set to sit with Read’s family at today’s hearing in Read’s murder trial before being disinvited over the incident last night in Canton.
Kearney managed to get press credentials with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and has been allowed to report on the Karen Read murder trial from inside the courthouse despite having current witness intimidation charges against him involving nearly a third of the prosecution’s witnesses.
As a reporter, his main reporting during his courtroom appearances has been done via tweets. It typically features his opinion of the jury’s reactions and his open insults and degrading comments towards witnesses. He has allegedly staged an incident that resulted in a protection order to block rival Grant Smith Ellis from reporting on the trial from the courthouse.
Kearney has become a low-level celebrity in Massachusetts due to his involvement in the Karen Read murder trial. With the trial itself in its last days, he is looking to pivot towards reporting on his own forthcoming witness intimidation trial, which involves most of the witnesses in the Karen Read case.
The next court hearing for those witness intimidation charges is set for July 11, 2024.
