The LA Times reported Thursday that David “Riverside County Accountability” Chavez and six of the seven other members of the “Justice 8” were again denied bond after being arrested on December 14 for various charges including false imprisonment, kidnapping, assault, vandalism and unlawful use of tear gas.
Judge Melissa Rodriquez granted bail to defendant Gullit Eder Acevedo of San Bernardino, ordering Acevedo to wear an ankle monitor, have no contact with other members of the group and to stay off of social media. Defendant Wendy Lujan was not in court on Thursday but has a scheduled court date next week.
Police have asked for the so called “Justice 8” to remain in custody as they feel that the group area danger to society based on their investigation that alleges members of the group. They contend that the group has been using social media to manipulate themselves into “Robin Hood” type figures, who stand up for street vendors, while planning harassment campaigns and protests that have turned violent.
The next hearing in the case is scheduled for January 3, 2024.
