In a rare return to form, SeanPaul “Long Island Audit” Reyes took Thursday’s GoFundMe crown with combined take of $125 split between his Help with Billboard Truck Purchase to EXPOSE Tyranny and his Support the Fight Against Tyranny & Corruption campaigns.
Reyes joined the ranks of first amendment auditors showcasing the injuries of Carolyn “Carolina in Fort Worth” Rodriguez on Tuesday, putting out a 22-minute video accusing Fort Worth police officers of criminal assault and demanding his removal from the police force.
The video featured an interview with Rodriguez’s former attorney, CJ Grisham, during Grisham’s media tour on Rodriguez’s behalf. Grisham claimed that the officer involved in the alleged assault has a violent history and that the officer pulled a gun on first amendment auditor Manuel Mata for crossing the street.
Strangely, the funds that were donated based on Reyes’ new video mainly went to his efforts to buy a billboard truck. Reyes has already purchased the truck for $156,000.00 but is seeking $20,000.00 from his fans to help defer the costs of the purchase.
While our own GoFundMe campaign came in second place, with a $10.00 take, the collapse of Asselmo’s campaign, with no new donations for Wednesday, may be the bigger story to talk about.
Asselmo, despite his reputation and Florida’s recent passage of new laws cracking down on auditors, is still a big draw in the first amendment auditing community. His announcement that he is no longer releasing videos until he “clears his name” is a noble cause but is a financially unsound decision.
GoFundMe campaigns live off of promotion. Unless attached to a huge news story, most of the campaigns wither and die (as we’ve proven in our coverage) if they are not constantly promoted to supporters of the cause.
By limiting his videos “until he proves his name,” Asselmo is killing the ability for his fans to learn about his campaign. If he truly is in need of an immediate influx of $50,000.00 to help with his legal costs, every resource must be used, and every effort must be made to obtain that money.
That includes flooding his channel with new videos, doing live streams, doing community posts and seeking as much coverage as possible for the campaign. Cutting his video production and telling his fans that he will not produce further content until his goal is achieved seems counterproductive.
But what do we know?
As always, if you’d like to keep us reporting new stories every day, we do have a GoFundMe of our own located at https://gofund.me/b8144e31. All proceeds go to keeping the lights on, eating, and writing new stories to feature here and on reallycoolsite.org.
