Manuel Mata, a little known first amendment auditor, was arrested at the sentencing hearing for Fort Worth police officer Aaron Dean on Friday, December 16, 2022.
Dean had been found guilty of manslaughter in the death of Atatiana Jefferson on Thursday. After his family left the courtroom, they were accosted by protesters including Manuel Mata.
Mata was present for the sentencing hearing on Friday and was called to the witness stand by the defense after Dean’s mother, Donna Dean, testified that she was accosted by protestors the previous day.
When Mata refused to be sworn in, his bond was revoked for previous charges for on charges of interference with public duties, trespassing and resisting arrest and he was taken into custody.
This is an evolving story and will be updated as needed.
