This trial centers around allegations that Dewitte did not continue to register actions in his life as he is required to do so as a registered sex offender.
The charge in this case is an allegation that Dewitte failed to tell authorities when he created a new YouTube channel along with a new website, which is one of the terms of his release as a registered sex offender.
The jury was made up of seven total jurors, with four women and three men, and the defense opted to reserve its opening statement until its portion of the trial begins.
Wednesday’s testimony saw James Woods, Dewitte’s parole officer, testify that Dewitte created a new YouTube channel and website within 48 hours. A video was played of Dewitte saying that he was moving to the new website before testimony wrapped up for the day.
PoliceTube’s Uncle is claiming that the defense is apparently banking on the fact that despite the commercial, the website was created by Dewitte’s girlfriend and is in her name and that she is sole owner of the website in question.
Dewitte gained fame for his multiple arrests in the early to mid-00’s where he impersonated a police officer. Of the more serious convictions, he was convicted of sexual battery of a teenage girl in 2005, which resulted in Dewitte being placed on the sex offender registry.
Dewitte has multiple charges of failing to abide by the terms of being on the sex offender registry, including his most recent arrest for failing to report to authorities that he had rented a vehicle.
No matter how this jury rule, Dewitte is expected to remain in jail as he is facing charges in Orange County, Florida and federal tax evasion charges.
Dewitte’s trial is expected to conclude on Thursday.
