Jose “Chille” DeCastro released his “daily” statement from jail, this time with an extensive review of his response to the state’s response to his appellant opening brief.
DeCastro fawned over the brief, citing the incredible work of attorney Christopher Oram. The YouTuber claimed the work was entirely Oram’s, despite accusations that DeCastro simply provided Oram with the document to turn into the court.
Flustered at times due to his incarceration, DeCastro explained that the only reason he did not retain someone like Oram in the first place was that he thought his case was open and shut and that a lesser attorney could handle the case.
He claimed he regretted the decision to obtain former attorney Michael Mee to represent him at trial and that Mee’s incompetence, along with the personal bias of Justice of the Peace Ann Zimmerman resulted in the guilty verdict.
DeCastro promised that he would be filing a civil lawsuit against Justice of the Peace Zimmerman when he gets out of jail in late July. He repeated previous statements that she was biased against him and claimed that her bias was on display as she reviewed his YouTube channel, which was never brought into evidence at his trial.
Strangely, DeCastro praised his own handling of the arrest. He claimed that he had no intent on being arrested on the day of the actual arrest, despite later comments on his live streams that he trapped the officers into an arrest to get standing to sue the State of Nevada on first amendment grounds.
The YouTuber also claimed that the arrest itself was retaliation for filming and that Brandan Borque, the police officer involved, and the justice of the peace invoked a “21-foot rule” as law during the trial. This again, is contrary to the officer’s actual testimony that the 21-foot rule was a guideline that he was taught in police training and was never an actual law.
Despite being convicted of obstructing an officer and interfering in a crime scene, DeCastro continued to claim that he was arrested for filming a police officer. As both the judge and the prosecution made it clear that was not the case, it is nonsensical to some that DeCastro has spent his entire appeal arguing otherwise.
Indicating that he believes otherwise, DeCastro has pledged to appeal the case all the way to the United States Supreme Court if needed.
DeCastro recently had another day taken from his sentence and is due to be released on July 30, 2024. He has also been complaining about a chipped tooth.
