YouTuber and attorney CJ Grisham released on Wednesday both security camera footage and bodycam footage from an incident involving Carolyn “Carolina in Fort Worth” Rodriguez and Fort Worth, Texas, police officer Matthew Kruger.
The two minutes of footage, unfortunately, leaves more questions than answers to what went on between the two.
Rodriguez was live streaming from downtown Fort Worth early Sunday morning. She stumbled into an investigation by police of a DUI hit and run in a private parking lot. As there was no crime scene tape up, Rodriguez assumed that the police were towing illegally parked vehicles from the parking lot.
She is heard wondering aloud how the police knew which vehicles were illegally parked and asked a male officer the question, who ignored her. She then walked into the parking lot and tried to ask the question of two female police officers, who ignored her, even after she screamed for help and that she was being raped and that there was a fire.
On the footage, and correcting our previous coverage, officer Matthew Kruger pulled up in his squad car and confronted Rodriguez. The two female officers then turn their attention to Rodriguez.
Kruger told Rodriguez that she was in a crime scene, and she could film from across the street; this was not picked up on her footage of the event. She protested and Kruger announced that she was under arrest and went to handcuff her.
From the security camera footage, it appeared if Rodriguez attempted to avoid the grasp of the officer and may have thrown an elbow at the officer before he attempted to take her to the ground.
Switching to Kruger’s bodycam footage, there is some question as to what happened. The same events played out but up close, it looked like Rodriguez dropped forward and the officer lost his grip on her at the same time. She then fell to the concrete where she sustained numerous injuries to her face.
Since the incident, Rodriquez’s story has gone viral within the first amendment auditing community. Numerous auditors both fundraising off of the story and converging on the Fort Worth area to “investigate” what happened Sunday morning.
CJ Grisham, who had been serving as Rodriquez’s attorney, also released a statement that he had been replaced as her attorney by another firm. He stated that he would turn over all funds that he had raised on her behalf, minus attorney’s fees.
