The Englewood City Council meeting became a referendum on city council members Joe Anderson and Steve Ward’s appearance on the Frauditor Troll show to discuss Regan Benson and other first amendment auditors.
Anderson and Ward appeared on Frauditor Troll’s show last month making it clear that the men were there outside of their official capacities and their viewpoints were reflective of their personal viewers and not the Englewood City Council.
Benson and others had pounced on the appearance, claiming that Anderson and Ward had appeared on a show run by a godless communist and Canadian and should be removed from their positions for unprofessionally using their first amendment rights to share their thoughts on Benson and Christopher “Denver Metro Audits” Cordova.
Monday’s night public feedback portion of the Englewood City Council meeting started with an admonishment of first amendment auditors by Englewood resident Jennifer Lambert, who implored members of the city council to ignore the antics of Benson and DMA.
She warned that any response only gave them relevance and while she agreed that the city council members were expressing their first amendment rights by going on the Frauditor Troll show, it only gave power to Benson and DMA in order to rile up their supporters.
She warned that Benson and her associates’ actions would only get worse as they were ignored until they ultimately gave up and went away.
True to her words, Lambert’s comments were followed by an over-the-top speech by Regan Benson. The first amendment auditor and activist read a letter she claimed to have received that exposed her social security number and hurled racist insults towards Cordova since coming forward to speak about the tyrannical actions of Denver area city governments.
Benson claimed that Anderson and Ward advocated violence against women while on the show and that Frauditor Troll hired someone to stalk her last year before ending her comments.
Christopher Cordova followed Benson and started with a bizarre complaint about the use of timers during public speeches and claimed that both he and Benson lost four seconds of their allotted five minutes of speaking time due to misuse of the timer by whomever controlled it on the city council.
He went on to blast Lambert’s comments, insulting Lambert and calling her and councilman Joe Anderson narcissists. Cordova would then single out Anderson, a pastor at a local church, for having a “dark energy” and a “low vibration soul” who disguised himself as a pastor in order to spread his evil.
Supporting Benson and Cordova were speakers Kevin Wright and Kathy Naughton in individual speeches during the non-scheduled portion of the public feedback session.
Wright claimed that he filed a complaint against Anderson and Ward with the ACLU and would soon be taking legal action against them for disparaging Benson and Cordova.
Naughton said that they shouldn’t have appeared on the show and reminded the men that they had a choice to ignore Benson’s outrageous behavior by saying nothing.
Speaking against Benson and Cordova’s accusations were Mika Haynes and Tim Nichols.
Haynes said that she felt that too much time was being spent at the city council meetings addressing the “clown show” of out of town first amendment auditors only there to cause a spectacle.
Nichols agreed that the out of towners were only there to disrupt and warned the men not to become part of the clown show. He asked the city council to abide by their charter and limit comments at the meetings to residents of Englewood and Englewood business owners.
During the public comments, Benson live streamed the proceedings and actively insulted and degraded those speaking in her YouTube side chat.
Council Member Ward himself addressed the controversy as he was the designated responder to the public comments Monday night.
Ward said that he could see why people were disappointed in him for his appearance on the Frauditor Troll show. He asked to set up a meeting with constituent Gary Kozacek, a frequent critic of the council, to have coffee and discuss their issues.
He also said that while he’s sorry that his actions caused fractures within the community, he would probably do it again if he had the opportunity to redo the past.
Addressing Wright’s threats, he encouraged Wright to carry through with his action as he would love to see if his first amendment rights could be found to have damaged another’s first amendment rights.
Council Member Anderson followed Ward’s remarks by stating that he stood behind his appearance on the Frauditor Troll show. He claimed he would not give in to the outside forces who frequently visited the city and abused members of city government with their outrageous behavior.
While admitting that an appearance on PBS would probably would have looked better than appearing on the Frauditor Troll show, Anderson said that he was offered the Frauditor Troll show appearance and took it and did not regret expressing his feelings on the show.
After the public speaking portion concluded, it was announced that an executive session would be held on June 17, 2024, to discuss increased security measures that the city council has had to put in place following an unspecified incident involving outside parties.
Benson responded to the announcement by stating that the meeting would be held in secret to come up with a plan to carry out acts of police violence against her and other first amendment auditors in Englewood.
