The strange case of Manuel Mata got a bit stranger as Manuel Mata’s bond has been reinstated after he was taken into custody at the Aaron Dean sentencing hearing on Friday, December 16, 2022, for refusing to be sworn in to testify.
The defense team for Aaron Dean explained that Mata had been suspected of making terroristic threats towards the Dean family and the defense team. On Friday, Mata was sitting within 21 feet of the family and the defense was uncomfortable with his presence due to his previous threats. The defense called Mata, and others, to testify because of this and Mata was taken into custody for refusing to be sworn in.
The Judge explained that he was also concerned with Mata’s presence and had been provided with Mata’s criminal history and acted as he felt the need to protect those in the courtroom from Mata.
Mata’s bonds should be reinstated sometime on Monday, December 19, 2022, and he should be released from custody at the same time.
