Wednesday saw another update in SeanPaul “Long Island Audit” Reyes’s lawsuit against Mayor Paul Alfrey of Melbourne, Florida, when the controversial mayor filed to either have the case dismissed or have Reyes slapped with sanctions.
This saga stared last fall when Reyes was recruited to “investigate” Alfrey by Alfrey’s former sister-in-law. The woman and her attorney alleged that Alfrey misused his dead brother’s credit card from a business that the brothers ran together.
They also alleged that the mayor was misusing funds from that business to take his extensive list of mistresses on vacations. Reyes would later add allegations that Alfrey misused his position as mayor to give sweetheart deals to his friends and associates.
Unfortunately for Reyes, his first attempt to throw shade at Alfrey coincided with a vote on renaming a street in Melbourne after the late activist Charlie Kirk. Reyes tried to pull a stunt on a livestream and confront the mayor but was almost booed out of the building by a full house of those wanting to debate the renaming issue.
After the event, Reyes told his fans to flood the Melbourne government with feedback on what he thought about the mayor. They reportedly followed his commands, giving negative feedback and allegedly making death threats on behalf of their idol.
Reyes sued Alfrey last fall after Alfrey posted on his official mayor about the death threats. Alfrey left his comments to a generic “youtuber” and did not specifically mention Reyes or his Long Island Audit brand.
Alfrey became one of Reyes’ main targets for the fall of 2025, with Reyes doing several profitable livestreams from Melbourne. Reyes made several visits, with and without friends, and was largely unsuccessful in disrupting the monthly Melbourne city council meetings.
The new filing in the case claims that Reyes filed the lawsuit in bad faith as the material facts of the case do not constitute actionable offenses. The filing alleges that statements made by the mayor did not name Reyes or his brand and did not directly accuse Reyes of wrongdoing.
Furthermore, Reyes has admitted that he has profited financially from the case, which has also brought in new viewers to his livestreams and subscribers to his channel. Instead of suffering damage from the supposed defamation, Reyes has flourished.
Finally, Alfrey brought up Reyes’ past history of similar incidents. Writing, “Moreover, as stated above, Plaintiff’s standard conduct of ginning up and provoking heated confrontation is for the sole purpose of inviting those on the other side of the camera to respond in what Plaintiff hopes is a provocative response.”
Mayor Alfrey is seeking sanctions against Reyes, a dismissal of the lawsuit with prejudice and attorney’s fees, costs and prejudgment interest to defendant from Reyes.
Reyes has made no public comment on the issue as of press time.
