New filings in the ongoing legal war between Christoper “Denver Metro Audits” Cordova and Jonathan “Frauditor Troll” Huneault on Tuesday revealed a change in legal representation for Huneault, as “Superstar” Steve Vondran is no longer representing the Canadian YouTuber.
Cordova is currently suing Huneault for claims related to copyright infringement, misrepresentation and circumvention of technological measures. Huneault is counter suing on grounds of bad faith misrepresentation in DMCA takedown notices and declaratory judgment of non-infringement.
A third claim by Huneault of tortious interference with prospective economic advantage is at the center of a motion to strike by Cordova, with an anti-SLAPP claim, however, that claim was withdrawn by Huneault when Cordova’s SLAPP concerns came to light.
The issue of the awarding of mandatory attorneys’ fees to Cordova even though the claim was withdrawn is still outstanding along with a motion to dismiss Huneault’s first and second counter claims.
There’s also a motion to dismiss the original claims by Huneault and his 14693663 Canada Inc., while Huneault, 14693663 Canada and Nneka Ohiri are proceeding with a response to the second amended complaint.
The case is a mess, to say the least.
Huneault’s decision to swap out “Superstar” Vondran for attorney “The Sinsational” Simon Lin was not a surprise to many as Vondran and Huneault never seemed to gel from the beginning on the case.
Vondran’s unforced errors, including forgetting defendant Ohiri was part of the case twice and his apparent unfamiliarity with SLAPP laws significantly hurt the case and may cost Huneault in upwards of $30,000.00 in estimated attorney’s fees.
Huneault’s tendency to announce moves and strategies in the lawsuit though livestreams on his YouTube channel have also been widely criticized. It is unclear if Huneault ran his announcements through Vondran before publicly expressing them.
As of Tuesday afternoon, Huneault is now represented by attorney Lin, who comes from the Evolink Law Group based in Vancouver, British Colombia. Lin is licensed to practice law in California and has practiced in the state for the last 10 years.
YouTuber Merb34st released a video shortly after the announcement where he expressed concerns about two issues with ethics in Lin’s past. We have been unable to confirm those claims as of press time.
That Randall S. “The Unhinged Attorney” Newman, Esq., remains Cordova’s attorney.
The split between Huneault and Vondran has been described as “amicable” by insiders familiar with the case and no ill will has been expressed by either party.
In his first motions in the case, attorney Lin filed to move the deadline to respond to Newman’s motion to dismiss counts 1 and 2 of the counterclaims to February 20, 2026. He also asked to continue multiple hearings to a series of new dates to accommodate his schedule.
Judge Virginia K. DeMarchi took up Lin’s motion almost immediately and ruled:
TEXT-ONLY ORDER. The Court finds that plaintiff’s motion to strike 61, is suitable for determination without oral argument. The Court vacates the February 17, 2026 hearing and will decide the motion on the papers. The parties’ requests for remote appearance 69 70 are terminated as moot. Signed by Magistrate Judge Virginia K. DeMarchi on 2/3/2026.
We will continue to monitor the changes in the lawsuit as Lin takes over from the departed Vondran.
Please note: In the original version of this report, we identified Huneault’s attorney as “Justin Lin” when his name is “Simon Lin.” We apologize for the error. The audio version maintains this error, though a correction is noted.
