YouTube influencer and cop watcher Christopher “Direct D” Ruff was freed Tuesday night from incarceration in the Apache County, Arizona, jail after a judge signed off on the prosecution’s motion to dismiss charges against him.

Ruff had initially been apprehended at the Apache County Courthouse in late July when he went to file for a hearing to dispute a protective order brought against him by former girlfriend Heather Russell.

Russell initially made rounds on livestreams belonging to Ruff’s enemies following the arrest, expressing her happiness that Ruff was arrested despite her previous claims that Ruff had not physically assaulted her or treated her with disrespect.

She has since stopped making comments about the case or live stream appearances.

Ruff was initially charged with multiple felony and misdemeanor charges. However, following his first appearance in court, those charges were reduced to a single felony and misdemeanor.

The court refused to lower Ruff’s $100,000.00 bond, however, as he was considered a flight risk. Ruff’s bond was increased to $108,500.00 when warrants for Ruff missing court hearings in Maricopa County were added.

Despite a valiant effort by Ruff’s fiancée, Amanda, fundraising for the roughly $15,000.00 Ruff needed to secure his release was slow to materialize.

While Ruff sat in jail, Amanda and Ruff’s friends worked tirelessly to expose cracks in the case against Ruff. Police were eventually provided ample evidence by Ruff’s team alleging that Russell had lied in her accusations against Ruff.

It would soon be revealed that Xavier Stewart, the officer who wrote the charging document against Ruff, had been on vacation during the week of Ruff’s arrest. Stewart was reportedly surprised by the arrest as he was not done securing information in the case.

Despite these developments, Ruff sat in the Apache County jail with his next hearing scheduled for Monday, August 24, 2026.

Even facing hopelessness, Ruff’s fiancée and friends did not give up home on him. The fought to have him provided with a working tablet and complained en masse against the jail’s insistence to hold Ruff in a medical cell rather than in general population.

Protests continued last week when Ruff was punished for borrowing a headset to help fix his broken tablet. Ruff’s punishment reportedly ended early based on the activity of his fiancée and his supporters.

Tuesday’s developments came as a surprise to his supporters, with the filing to drop the charges against him appearing in the eACESS system a little before 5PM local time. A judge signed off on the motion a few minutes after that and Ruff was released from jail by mid-evening local time.

Upon release, Ruff held an extended livestream thanking his supporters and cursing his detractors.

Ruff’s release brought about no new donations to his GiveSendGo campaign, as Roy Tripoloni’s campaign for James “James Freeman” Springer brought in $50.00 to take the crowd sourcing title for the day.

No other campaigns that we follow saw donations for the day.

This is a breaking news story.
