Fans of free-range grandmother and sometime advocate for the homeless Regan Benson were treated to her latest adventure on Saturday as she patrolled Colorado’s 150th anniversary celebration in downtown Denver in search of new outrage and things to shame about her “beloved” hometown.
Benson started the day complaining about the heat in downtown Denver, which she has classified as in decline since the COVID lockdowns in the early part of the decade. She said the city has since blamed the homeless for all of their problems, when in fact the city had given up on trying to maintain its image as a destination.
The grandmother parked her vehicle and made her way towards the celebration, indicating that she was there to mock Governor Jared Polis to his face, who took a picture in front of the state patrol booth at the celebration.
Benson was especially amused by Polis, who was wearing what she said was a ‘Toy Story’esque blue outfit that made him stand out like a child’s toy. She also began to warn of the dangers of democracy when she became distracted… by a low rider gathering outside of the celebration?
The sometime activist for the homeless exclaimed that her father was a famous car designer and painter as she was growing up and she fell in love with the low-rider experience through him.
She went from car to car, telling how she’d like to ride the cars and judging those that had any decals or stickers related to backing the police. She saw at least one car’s stickers as an affront to the movement and briefly chastised the owner of the vehicle for daring to display such an emblem on his car.
Benson then made her way up to the official celebration, with her first stop being the state patrol booth. While at the booth, she expressed her displeasure at the lack of presence by the Governor, or her current nemesis “Sgt. Lewis.”
She then expressed her absolute outrage that the state patrol booth featured a blue line sticker and demanded to know who was responsible for the placement of the sticker. She also asked for and was denied the removal of the sticker from the display.
After demanding business cards from all of the police officers, Benson left the booth, making her way over to a police officer standing next to a high powered patrol motorcycle. The officer asked if she’d like a picture sitting on the motorcycle and she declined, stating that it’d ruin her image.
She had a polite conversation with the officer for a few minutes then went inside the capitol building looking for a restroom. While in the building, she spent time screaming her political views into fans stationed throughout the interior of the building.
Benson would eventually give up trying to find the governor and started the walk back to her car. As she made her way there, she encountered state patrol sergeant Collier, who informed her that the state patrol was no longer parking their cars on the grass in a nearby park.
He also informed her that he has been doing more on foot patrolling through the park and recently helped save the life of a man who was having a diabetic episode in the park. As they departed, she accepted a junior officer sticker from the sergeant and proclaimed him one of the few good ones on the force.
Benson would stop on her way to her car and share that he heard a rumor that long time Englewood City Attorney Tamara Niles was up for the position of City Manager, replacing long time nemesis Shawn Lewis. She lashed out at Niles and Lewis for her most recent arrest in the city, claiming that it complicated her search for work.
As she ended her livestream, she also announced that her fans could donate to her personal PayPal account with none of the money going to her 501(c)(3) organization. She said that she needed a public defender in her appeal of her temporary ban from the Englewood Civic Center and any cash her fans could send would help her dire financial need.
