Followers of Regan Benson were treated to another display of outrage on Friday as the Denver based YouTuber and sometime homeless activist verbally assaulted a records custodian while making a public records request.
Benson started the livestream by claiming that she had been in the area “all afternoon” for a meeting with Lone Tree District Attorney George Brauchler. The meeting was about a Benson related traffic accident in the area last fall where Benson says that police botched the prosecution of the driver who allegedly hit the YouTuber.
In Benson’s account of the accident, the woman hit Benson’s car and then refused to stop to trade insurance or deal with the police. Benson made an accident report on scene and after the accident, would drive to the Lone Tree police department to attempt to provide a compliment on record to the officer who helped her.
That attempt ended in a screaming match as officers were unable to help Benson further at the time with the case against the other driver. That incident has resulted in Benson making regular trips back to the office to obtain more information about her case.
Through public records and through her dealings with Lone Tree police, Benson had been able to obtain that the woman is allegedly in the country illegally and was driving a relative’s car without a license at the time of the accident.
Friday’s visit was to obtain the current charges the woman was facing to include it in Benson’s insurance report. While Benson knew the charges, she wanted a written statement to indicate that the woman was being charged with leaving the scene of an accident and driving without a license.
Benson admitted that she had arrived near closing time at the Lone Tree police department but expected normal treatment from staff. She approached the records department window and informed the clerk that she wanted a copy of records she had previously obtained.
The YouTuber had previously indicated that she needed a statement that the other driver was at fault to file an insurance claim. She had also bitterly complained that she was facing a $1,000.00 deductible from her insurance and that her rates would go up because of the accident.
When the clerk asked for Benson’s identification, Benson angerly refused to give that information to the clerk. The clerk then went to check with command staff to see how to proceed forward with Benson’s request without the need for Benson’s identification.
After several minutes of waiting, Benson was approached by Lieutenant Kyle Maddox of the Lone Tree police department. Maddox explained that the information that Benson was seeking could not be released to her at the time as it was part of an active court case.
Benson countered that she had already obtained the original ticket the woman received along with more information about the active case. Maddox attempted to work with her as Benson demanded a probable cause statement instead of the ticket then asked to talk to the custodian of records.
While Maddox stated that he believed the custodian of records had left for the day, a woman appeared at the records desk window and appeared to be listening to the conversation.
That woman, identifying herself as the custodian of records, would later interject herself into Benson and Maddox’s conversation, stating that she could provide a document with the information that Benson was seeking.
Benson launched into a tirade at the woman when she was informed that there would be a charge of $10.34 for her request. The outraged YouTuber used profanity against the woman and disparaged how the woman operated her records department, stating that she would be filing a complaint against the woman, before throwing $11.00 under the glass partition at the records desk.
The woman responded that since it was after hours, she would be in contact with Benson in three to five business days before leaving the window. An outraged Benson began to scream at the window while Lieutenant Maddox went to the back to talk to the records custodian. After several minutes Maddox returned with Benson’s change and a copy of the requested document.
Benson then returned to her car where she explained that she was the victim in the case and that the woman was in the country illegally. She then blamed the records custodian for her outbursts, stating that she responds to the attitude of those she interacts with in a similar fashion and that the woman had a horrible attitude.
The driver who allegedly hit Benson’s car was due in court on January 20, 2026. We have no further information on the outcome of her court appearance.
