Jeremiah Payne’s on-going outrage tour in Clarksville, Tennessee, continued Saturday as he released a new outrage video, this time twisting a fairly benign interaction with police outside of a dentist’s office into a First Amendment crisis.
The video started with Payne and his seven-year-old daughter walking towards police officers on a sidewalk in Clarksville. The camera pans and the sign on the building on the property read “Clarksville Modern Dentistry.”
More police officers were standing a little further away with Payne’s wife Samantha, who seemed to be trying to work with the officers.
The property itself extended past a grassy area with shade trees to the sidewalk. It appeared that the Paynes were sitting in the shade with their daughter playing on the property at the time of whatever transpired with the business.
A police officer explained to Payne that the business was concerned about Payne’s daughter climbing a tree in their yard and had asked Payne and his family to be trespassed from the property.
Both the officers and Payne appeared calm, and after retrieving his gimble from a shady area on the property, Payne agreed that his family would stay off the property. He added that he would be on the sidewalk “auditing” the building for the rest of the day.
There was some friendly debate if a sidewalk extending onto the property and down to a gas station was public, with Payne saying that he could use the sidewalk and the officers stating that they’d have to check.
During the back and forth, the officers remained friendly and polite, however, Payne’s on screen text contained insults that the officers were “tyrants” who were out to restrict his freedom of expression.
After Payne and his family disengaged from the officers and retreated up a small hill to the sidewalk bordering the property, a woman came out of the building and yelled that Payne needed to stay away from the building’s windows in order to protect the privacy of their clients.
In return, Payne yelled insults at the woman and told her that she would face “thousands” of phone calls complaining about her treatment of his family. An on-screen prompt said that Payne was live streaming on four channels at the time of the incident.
There were no public YouTube livestreams from Payne in relation to the incident available to view as of late Saturday night.
Payne was outraged and again, the police officers calmly returned, clarifying that Payne could record from the sidewalk up the hill but added that the sidewalk leading to the front of the business and down to the gas station was private property.
Again, despite Payne’s cordial interactions with the police officers, Payne’s video ended with text reading, “I just showed you he is a tyrant, and he hates the constitution.”
